Meet Chloe Youtsey, our Tarzan music director and summer piano/voice instructor!
Chloe Youtsey (Yahtzee) is new to the Centerstage staff and is so excited to join the family! A jazz studies major at James Madison University, she has spent the last three years serving dually as a pianist and a vocalist in big band, small band, and solo settings, exploring the musical worlds of classical, jazz, choral, and music theater. In high school, Chloe was heavily involved in the theater, choral, and band programs, with her favorite role being Cinderella in Rogers and Hammerstein's classic.
"I've been blessed to do a lot of cool things since starting my undergrad, but I am extremely honored and ecstatic to be involved in this summer's production of Tarzan. The music is near and dear to my heart, as I'm sure it is for a lot of kids across many generations, and the fact that I'll be working closely with my friend Cory and helping him do his thing (and watching him do it awesomely) makes my heart swell. This story is familiar to us all, and so perhaps it's taken for granted how profound the message is when you think about it. It emphasizes the importance of being secure in your identity, finding community, and the evils of bigotry. So more than putting something beautiful together this summer, we're going to also be saying something meaningful. Working on this show will be like tying a tight string around all the separate elements of an excellent artistic and musical performance that I have been working on these past couple years, and I'm stoked to work with the cast and get people groovin' to Phil Collins!"
