Meet Guy Hayden!

We know a lot about Guy Hayden, but do you? Read up on all things Guy from our interview with him!

Q. What got you into performing?

A. My first time before an audience was when I was about 5. My school was presenting a talent show. I entered; my talent was reciting Edward Lear’s “The Owl and the Pussy-cat”. I was a big hit and caught the performing bug. I have never recovered.

Q. What is your favorite food? Least favorite?

A. My favorites are linguine with white clam sauce, carnitas and carne asada, or Hong Kong style noodles; my least favorite would be seafood salad with octopus (UGH!)

Q. What is your favorite movie or TV show?

A. Movie: Lord of The Rings (all three); TV: “Are You Being Served?”, “I Love Lucy”, “Monty Python’s Flying Circus”

Q. What is the most surprising thing about you?

A. On a cross country road trip I once rebuilt a Volkswagen engine in Flagstaff, New Mexico.

Q. What is your favorite holiday? A. New Year’s Day

Q. What was your favorite book growing up? A. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland -- I just finished reading it again.

Q. What is your favorite animal? Dogs – I have had four Chihuahuas; Paco, Gizmo, Lobo, Abby (she is still alive).

Q. What inspires you the most about teaching kids? A. Watching them enjoying learning about music.

Q. What advice would you give to those interested in starting lessons or classes? A. Realize that you will never learn everything about music and your instrument. The study requires more than a single lifetime.

Q. What is the most important/memorable advice you were given as a young student or aspiring artist? A. There can never be too much beauty in the world. Keep adding to it. Never give up. You will always have new challenges.

Q. What guidance would you give to parents of students? A. Be supportive. Show your interest. Watch them learn, listen to them perform, be actively involved in their progress.
