April Grosskopf is a native of the Hampton Roads area, graduating from Christopher Newport University with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Choral Music Education in May 2016, earning her Master of Arts in Teaching in May 2017.  She continued her education at East Carolina University, recently graduating with a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy.

In addition to her multiple degrees and training, April has considerable performance experience, including the role of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro in ECU Opera Theatre 2021 and Juliette in Romeo et Juliette in CNU Opera Workshop 2017, just to name a few. She has also performed professionally with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra from 2013 to 2019 and as a Choral Scholar with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church from Spring 2020 to May 2021. Additionally, she served as the soprano section leader and soloist at Hidenwood Presbyterian Church in Newport News and at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in North Carolina.

April's love of performing is matched by her love of teaching! She worked as a music teacher in Newport News Public Schools, and has been teaching private voice and piano lessons of all ages and levels since 2012. April studied voice and piano at Centerstage Academy in her youth and cites that experience as critical in her musical growth and achievement. She loves teaching lessons because she loves being able to share music with her students and watch them grow.

April has a passion for helping students achieve their goals and grow in confidence through positive, encouraging guidance. Her lessons are always tailored to the specific student – their needs, goals and interests. She enjoys discovering new styles and genres with her students, from musical theatre to classical to folk, opera and beyond! Under her instruction, students will experience a balance of motivation and challenge, knowledge and nurture. Her desire is to impact young lives for good, giving them a strong foundation to succeed wherever their journey leads.

In her free time, April loves to spend time with her husband and her two cats, write stories, go to the beach, and play video games!

We are so thankful that April’s journey brought her once again to Centerstage, and we welcome her and her husband to our family.
