Esther Kim is an alumna of the University of Richmond, where she double majored in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Music. Originally from Yorktown, Virginia, she began studying violin at age 13 at her mother’s encouragement to join her church orchestra.

In high school, she co-founded the W-Quartet, a chamber ensemble that performed at senior care facilities, nursing homes, and community events in Williamsburg. She initially studied violin under Dr. Ara Gregorian and later rekindled her passion in college, where she studied under Ms. Susy Yim throughout her undergraduate years.

Esther has performed in solo recitals, chamber ensembles, and orchestral concerts. She was active in the University of Richmond Chamber Ensembles and served as concertmaster of the University Orchestra. Her performance experience includes a solo debut at Carnegie Hall in April 2018 after placing second in the International Young Artists Competition. She has also appeared as a guest soloist with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra at the Sandler Center and performed at Yorkminster Presbyterian Church. Her accolades include awards from the Lions Club Bland Music Competition and the Williamsburg Concerto Competition. She has trained in masterclasses with Xiao-Dong Wang, Hyejin Kim, and Anyango Yarbo-Davenport, and participated in programs such as the ECU Chamber Music Summer Institute and the Philadelphia International Soloist Ensemble. She has also performed in side-by-side concerts with the ECU Four Seasons Next Generation ensemble.

Esther is passionate about exploring the therapeutic role of music in healthcare settings. Between her commitments, she volunteers as a violinist at hospice and support centers, offering comfort to patients and their families through music. She is passionate about sharing the joy she continually rediscovers through music in different capacities. She values musical collaboration and community outreach and is committed to helping her students discover their own passion, encouraging them to use their talents to impact others and contribute to a greater purpose beyond themselves.

In her free time, she enjoys exploring local cuisine, staying active through sports, and serving in her church community. She is currently a graduate student at the VCU School of Medicine, pursuing her goal of becoming a physician while continuing to integrate her passion for music with meaningful community engagement.
